Live Mocha

I got interested in Live Mocha when I saw an article about it in WSJ. The site allows you to learn a foreign language by letting you interact with the native speakers without ever leaving the home. It has a vibrant community. The assignments I submit are reviewed by my Spanish speaking friends or strangers who are randomly presented with my assignments for review

Interestingly, I noticed that there are some common words between Hindi and Spanish. This probably is explained by the fact that all north India languages descended from Sanskrit, which shares a parent language with several European languages. Take a look at Indo-European branches of the language tree.

Naranjo Orange
Roja Red
Diez ten
All the above have similar words in Hindi with same meaning. One pet peeve I have about Hindi is difficulty in correctly identifying whether inanimate objects are masculine or feminine. Spanish has the same problem. How can I tell whether casa (house) is feminine or masculine? Your sentence changes based on that. My mother tongue (Telugu) doesn't have this problem. Inanimate objects are treated just like inanimate objects. They don't have gender (just like English)

Anyway, if you join live mocha, please become my friend.
